What is Nickel 201 Seamless Pipe
Nickel 201 is commercially pure wrought nickel with a lower carbon limit than Nickel 200. The distinction is important in elevated-temperature selection and must be verified by chemical analysis capable of measuring carbon. A general alloy-identification reading alone is not sufficient to confirm the low-carbon grade.

Elevated-Temperature Selection
Nickel 201 is considered where the graphitization susceptibility of Nickel 200 is a concern. Low carbon addresses this material-selection issue; it does not provide an unlimited operating-temperature range. Pressure service also requires the relevant code limits, allowable stress, wall thickness and design life.
Caustic Service Considerations
Enquiries may include caustic process piping and compatible high-temperature chemical transfer systems. Provide the concentration, operating and upset temperatures, sulfur-bearing impurities, aeration and flow conditions. These details allow service requirements to be reviewed before the grade and supply scope are agreed.
Grade Verification and Order Definition
Specify UNS N02201 rather than a generic “pure nickel” description. The order must identify the product specification, edition, condition and applicable dimensional requirements. Material marking and the agreed inspection document should be traceable to the supplied heat.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose Nickel 201 instead of Nickel 200?
The lower carbon limit makes Nickel 201 relevant for elevated-temperature selection where graphitization is a concern. The complete service conditions still determine suitability.
Can handheld XRF confirm Nickel 201 rather than Nickel 200?
Handheld XRF does not provide the carbon measurement needed for this distinction. Use suitable carbon analysis and verify the ordered grade against the material test results.
Is Nickel 201 suitable for every hot caustic process?
No blanket suitability claim is appropriate. Temperature, concentration, impurities and the applicable design requirements must be assessed.
Are EN 10204 3.2 documents automatically included?
Specify the required document type and witnessing scope in the enquiry. These requirements must be agreed before order confirmation.

Specification Control and Dimensions
The quotation and purchase order must identify the material grade, product specification and edition, delivery condition, dimensions and acceptance requirements. Chemical analysis, mechanical test results and dimensional inspection must be assessed against the agreed requirements for the supplied heat and product form.
Available dimensions are confirmed for the requested grade, outside diameter, wall thickness, length and delivery condition. Catalogue dimensions are not a guarantee that every size combination is available or held in stock. Dimensional tolerances, straightness, wall basis and cut-length tolerances are confirmed against the ordered specification.
Inspection and Traceability
State the inspection document type and any supplementary inspection in the enquiry. The agreed documentation should link the supplied material and heat marking to the material test results. Hydrostatic testing, nondestructive examination and supplementary tests are governed by the product specification and purchase order; test methods, coverage and acceptance criteria must be stated rather than assumed.
PMI can support alloy identification but does not replace the full chemical analysis or the material test certificate. Where carbon content distinguishes the ordered grade, use a chemical analysis method capable of measuring carbon. Specify any EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 documentation and third-party witnessing before order confirmation; availability and scope are subject to agreement.
Design and Service Assessment
Seamless construction means the product has no longitudinal weld seam. It does not establish a universal pressure rating or corrosion guarantee. Design pressure, temperature and service life depend on the applicable code, dimensions, allowable stress, corrosion allowance, joint details and operating conditions. Typical material data must not be used as design allowable stresses.
Request a Quotation for Pipe
Send the grade and UNS designation; product specification and edition; NPS and schedule with the applicable dimensional standard, or actual OD and wall thickness; quantity; length; delivery condition; end finish; required inspection documents; and delivery destination. Include the operating medium, concentration, temperature and pressure when service suitability needs assessment. State the required delivery date so supply options can be reviewed.
